On Wednesday, May 22, Ellis Bird Farm hosted four Grade 9 students taking part in The Alberta Science Network's Operation Minerva Conference. This conference introduces girls to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Melissa Spruit, Glenda Shi, Brianna Kehler and Jessica Barclay spent the morning hearing of Ellis Bird Farm's history, goals and commitment to research on cavity nesting birds, particularly Purple Martins and Mountain Bluebirds. The job shadow experience culminated with a tour of the Mountain Bluebird Trail to view eggs, nestlings and the banding of an adult Mountain Bluebird.
