On July 20th, Ellis Bird Farm will keep its gates open until 8:00 PM. In addition to all our usual nature-related exhibits and the beautiful evening view, we will also have several local fibre artists onsite demonstrating spinning and needle felting. Come watch Donna Rudd, master hand spinner, in action and learn more about the beautiful art created by fibres and textiles.
EBF board member, Leo de Groot, with assistance from Hank Broomfield of McBain Camera, led a very informative and well-attended photography workshop at the site on Saturday, July 6th. Participants left the workshop with lots of tips about how to best capture birds and other wildlife in motion.
The Ellis Bird Farm staff gathered together for pizza and wine at the end of June to celebrate the end of the springtime season and bid farewell to Hannah. We even managed to catch a break in the rain storms to assemble for a photograph.
Ellis Bird Farm celebrated Canada Day by acknowledging our Indigenous heritage. While the weather was stormy and changeable, over 100 people came out to listen to Elder Maggie and Joseph Fromhold share their stories and wisdom. We were honoured to be able to host this important conversation and hope to be able make it an annual Canada Day Ellis Bird Farm tradition. As well, the Lakeside Social Workers once again shared their cupcake-making expertise and families were able to participate in bird feeder building.
With the end of June upon us, we had to bid farewell to our springtime grounds assistant, Hannah Wagner. Hannah has been a huge help to our head gardener with her proficient skills on the tractor, mower and weed whipper. We will miss her smiling face!
